Interview with Jemma – Dorkface

Why did you start your blog?

I have always been a creative person, and writing is just one of my passions that I wanted to share with the world. Blogging felt like a natural next step for me!

When you first started your blog back in 2014 did you ever think it would become as successful as it has?

Oh my gosh, NO WAY. It feels crazy to think I just started it on a whim one day, on my day off. It has now become a full-time business for me and the thing I’m most passionate about in life. It makes me so happy!

How would you describe your blogging style?

Colourful, creative, fun, and casual. I like to share my whole life, my Art, my ideas and thoughts; and I never take myself too seriously.

How do you make sure that you always have time to manage your blog?

I’m quite a goal-oriented person, and organisation comes naturally to me. I prioritise things each day, seeing what needs doing, and I always plan ahead. My blog is something I work on almost every single day, and I love it.

What has been the biggest achievement to come from your blogging career?

Winning multiple awards and working with some amazing brands! I feel very lucky.

When you aren’t writing blog posts and creating products for your Etsy shop, what do you do to relax?

I love to paint! Even though this can still be counted as ‘work’ – I still often do it for myself too. I also love binge watching my favourite shows, shopping, and going for hikes in the woods!

When did you first start your Etsy shop? And for those who don’t know you, what can you find on there?

I think I started my Etsy on a whim in 2014 – But I never actually did anything with it or really tried to make it a business until 2016.

You can find it at – if you love cute art prints, stickers, bookmarks, bunting kits and more!

For people who want to start their own blog/online business, what advice would you give them?

Be as unique as you can! I know it’s extremely hard, but celebrate all your quirks and passionately share them with the world. Standing out is the greatest thing you can do!

On social media lately, there has been a lot of talk about blogging not being a real job, as a professional blogger what are your thoughts on this?

I don’t waste time on these conversations if I’m honest. I’m earning money. I’m challenging myself. I have goals. I work hard. Anyone who doesn’t class it as a job is not facing the reality of the modern world.

Have you ever felt like giving it all up, if so why?

Never! I’m very lucky that I’ve never stopped loving this, but the one thing that has put me on a bit of a downer sometimes is social media. Especially Twitter. People just voicing opinions all day can start to affect your mental health, even if it’s not aimed at you. So during those times, I get away from it all. But I’ve never stopped loving my blog 🙂

What big plans do you have for the blog this year?

Keep going! I want to work with more brands, push myself creatively, and make my Instagram a huge, key feature of my brand.

Above all, I just want to stay happy though! 🙂
